GALAPAGOS NATIONAL PARK ANNOUNCEMENT ON SPORT FISHING
Notice from the Galapagos National Park Service, Galapagos Islands, Ecuador
The Galapagos National Park Service advises all tour operators, local entrepreneurs, private boat owners and visitors to the islands that the operation of both recreational and commercial sports fishing is prohibited in the waters of the Galapagos Marine Reserve by Regulation No. 014, date March 2005, from the Ministry of Environment.
The Galapagos Marine Reserve extends 40 nautical miles from the peripheral of the Galapagos Archipelago. All waters within this area are protected and governed by rules and regulations peculiar to the area.
Any infringement of this regulation will be sanctioned in accordance with standing laws and regulations pertaining to illegal activities. These laws and regulations are based on the legal responsibility of the Galapagos National Park Service to guarantee protection to the unique ecosystems of the Galapagos archipelago.
The objective of this announcement is to prevent or to alert visitors to avoid falling into problems that can end up in legal actions imposed by local authorities of the Galapagos National Park Service. Please, avoid any kind of problem and make your stay fully enjoyable. We expect visitors to contribute to the conservation of the Galapagos Islands by respecting and following all its standing laws and regulations.
