RADIO 4 BROADCAST "IT'S MY STORY: BEYOND THE BEAGLE"

On Thursday 16th June at 8pm, Radio 4 will broadcast a programme about the Galapagos called "It's My Story: Beyond the Beagle".

170 years after Charles Darwin visited the Galapagos on "The Beagle" - a visit that would eventually rewrite our notions of life on earth - one of his great, great grandsons retraces the voyage round the archipelago that did so much to shape Darwin's understanding of evolution.

Chris Darwin's contemporary impressions of how the islands have evolved over the last 170 years are interspersed with Charles Darwin's own observations, as recorded in his journals. Chris Darwin ponders on what's changed in the islands, and how this famous ancestry has shaped his own life - despite the fact that he failed his A-level biology first time round!

The voyage was organised by former naturalist guide David Horwell of Select Latin America (Incorporating Galapagos Adventure Tours), and the BBC programme was produced by Ruth Evans.
