SEYMOUR ISLAND

Galapagos frigatebird: photograph by Chris Hall

A very small island, Seymour is separated from Baltra by a narrow channel. It is one of the most visited islands, as many boats having just picked up their passengers at Baltra give an immediate panga trip to Seymour. In addition, day trips from Santa Cruz come to the island.

The landing is a dry one direct onto a rocky shore and immediately visitors are aware of animals and birds. Sea lions sun themselves and there are blue-footed boobies, tropicbirds, lava gulls, swallow-tailed gulls, noddy terns and pelicans. Marine iguanas are also present. As a first introduction to the Galapagos it is ideal.

There are two major nesting sites, one for blue-footed boobies and one for frigatebirds, the former nesting on the ground with the latter nesting in the palo santo trees.
